My name is John Chauncey. I’ve been self-employed for most of my adult life, as an independent business owner.
Due to the economy crash in recent years, I have found that I have had to focus my attention elsewhere in order to make an honest living. I've always had an entrepreneurial spirit and a knack for coming up with creative ideas.
I have always had this feeling and drive to do or to create something great with my life to help others. This drive has led me to these current ventures: Affirmative Consent and Instant Consent.
I thought to myself, what a great way to do something constructive and helpful and perhaps make an honest living along the way. My initial thought was to include my lifelong friend, Cody Collins because he is computer savvy and I trust him with my life.
In the recent months, Cody and I have taken on a third partner, Alison Morano. Including Alison, as a women, and a partner, has opened up more avenues to understanding the consent revolution/movement. And this has turned out to be a much more versatile venture than I initially envisioned, and I am thankful for that.
Working on this project has opened my eyes to many different facets and different avenues, down which we three could take AC and IC. This project has the potential for a greater reach and influence on today’s relationships, society as a whole and the conversation that will follow, than I had ever imagined.
When I first started envisioning what a consent project would look like, I had thought it would be an easy task to provide a way for students and other young adults to discuss these consent issues. It would be a quick yes or no kind of ‘transaction’ and that they would be able to consent really easily and that would be that.
However, the more I learned about the subject and the layers that come with the responsibility of consent, the more engaged and involved I have become with the actual process, and the more we want to provide a real background and depth to the different layers of consent.
I hope that this website, and this endeavor helps people understand the idea that they need to Change the Conversation.
I want to make a difference in this world, and I believe that AffirmativeConsent.com and InstantConsent.com is a good start.
