By this July California colleges must immediately disclose reported sexual assaults to law enforcement. Today California Attorney General Kamala Harris offered suggestions for how schools can comply with the law.
Harris’ office released a guide for how colleges should respond to reports of sexual assault. It recommends establishing in advance which roles schools and law enforcement will take following a reported assault. It suggests strategies be developed to ensure victims are connected to services as soon as possible. And it recommends colleges and law enforcement agencies commit to regular sexual assault response training.
