Affirmative consent law needs to be clearer
We definitely need this Assembly Bill 695 enacted into law. This bill is authored by Kevin de Leon and Sen. Hannah-Beth Jackson: to bring sexual assault training to high schools following last year’s acceptance of the “Yes Means Yes” Affirmative Consent Law.
The “Yes Means Yes” law compels students to obtain explicit, affirmative consent to be physically intimate with would-be partners. The key aspect of this law is that acquiescence is not enough, nor is tacit agreement. The only acceptable precondition for sex is the conscious and freely given explicit assertion that one wants to receive tactile, sexual attention.
