Following a rash of incidents both in Connecticut and around the country, including a high-profile suit brought against the University of Connecticut, the issue of sex assault on college campuses poked the public in the eye last year.
It got the attention of the White House, Congress and — at long last, in some cases — college administrators.
Action ensued. Congress introduced a Campus Accountability and Safety Act, guidelines and requirements for college administrators to follow. It is still wending its way.
Unfortunately, a bill dubbed “yes means yes” that would have set tighter guidelines on consent to a sexual act was raised in the Connecticut General Assembly this year, but never came up for a vote. It passed the senate by a resounding 34-1 voted, but never made it out of the House of Representatives.
