DANVILLE, Va. (WSET) -- A senior at George Washington High School in Danville is working to change how we view sexual assault and rape.
17-year-old Mae Gayle Dalton is trying to change the rhetoric that surrounds sexual assault and the victim blaming that often happens to rape victims through her 'End Rape Culture and Victim Blaming' initiative.
People often doubt that a single person can make a difference, but, Dalton is determined to. "My number one goal is to change minds, and hopefully change perspectives, and then change the outcome of what happens to victims."
Dalton is on a crusade to change the way we all think about rape victims and to help everyone speak out against the men and women who commit sexual assault.
Her goal is to do it one speech at a time and hopes to shake up the conversation. "I want people to hear it from somebody and not just read it or see it online," explained Dalton.
