No sexual assaults have been reported at UTA in 2016.
This sounds good on the surface, but is there really nothing to be reported?
It is difficult to determine if sexual assaults are happening less or if they are going unreported.
The Shorthorn believes the trend of not reporting needs to change, and there’s no better time to address it than in April, which is Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
“This month we affirm our commitment to shift the attitudes that allow sexual assault to go unanswered and unpunished, and we redouble our efforts to prevent this human rights violation from happening in the first place,” President Barack Obama said in a release from the Office of the Secretary on Thursday.
“Too many women and men of all ages suffer the outrage that is sexual assault, and too often, this crime is not condemned as loudly as it should be,” the president said.
